Pulse — Health in your pocket
A patient companion app that turns chronic care into a calm, daily rhythm — designed with clinicians, loved by patients.
The Challenge
Chronic care apps fail patients in the same way: they treat a daily health routine as a series of alerts. Pulse wanted to build the opposite — a companion that felt calm, private, and genuinely supportive — without sacrificing clinical rigor.
Our Approach
We co-designed with a panel of clinicians and patients across three conditions. The resulting product replaces alarms with rhythms: a gentle daily check-in, a private journal, and a clinician-facing summary the patient controls. Accessibility wasn't a phase — it shaped every component, from type scale to motion timing.
The Outcome
Pulse launched with a 4.9-star App Store rating and a 92% patient retention rate at 90 days — roughly double the category benchmark. Two health systems have since licensed the platform, and the accessibility system is now open-sourced.
